Huronview and Huronlea are sister Houses in Huron County. These council homes provide 24-hour healthcare to people who can no longer live independently in their own homes and need nursing and personal care. Teamwork in Homes for the Elderly is a harmonious and collaborative approach in which a variety of healthcare professionals with different knowledge, skills and abilities come together to achieve goals based on the health needs and preferences of residents residing in the Homes.

As a member of the Resident Care department, the Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of residents to medical appointments and also participates in a variety of other duties related to achieving the department’s goals and objectives in providing quality service and teamwork.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • He is aware of the Established Bill of Rights and seeks to respect and promote it.
  • Transports residents to medical appointments in the local community or surrounding area as needed and arranges outings to allow adequate time for appointments to reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Is ready to take emergency measures, such as first aid or calling 911, if the patient’s condition changes during his or her care.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the patient as a whole, taking into account their cultural, spiritual, psychosocial and restorative needs.
  • Observes and reports significant changes in the resident’s physical and emotional conditions to Enrolled Staff, either verbally or by documenting, in a manner that demonstrates respect for each resident and maintains privacy and confidentiality (documentation may include observations in behavior, staff interventions, and the resident’s response to those interventions).
  • Assists the maintenance department with the van by arranging for regular maintenance of the vehicle according to policy and regular cleaning of the van (using MaintenanceCare.com).
  • Equipment and supplies in the home and residents’ cell phones, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. Shares responsibility for the safe use and care of personal belongings.
  • It ensures efficient use of consumables.
  • Accepts responsibility for the quality of care and service provided.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and the importance of maintaining a safe environment by performing a safety check of the vehicle for lights, brakes, lifting device, First Aid Kit, and mobile phone before each trip.
  • Maintains a good attendance record and accepts responsibility for working as planned.
  • Takes responsibility for personal development, including identifying own work-related learning needs and participating in training opportunities provided.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • A class G driver’s license is required and its currentness is checked by submitting a photocopy of this document annually, two (2) months before the birthday.
  • Proof of safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of safe and defensive driving techniques
  • Must be able to adapt to flexible working hours
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to follow instructions and stay on schedule
  • CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in a healthcare facility or community setting, demonstrating genuine interest and concern for seniors.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Working condition is proof of Covid-19 vaccination

Wage:

  • $24.10-27.19 per SEIU Collective Agreement
