(The Educational Opportunity pay rate is $27.82 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until minimum qualifications are met.)

Department: Growth and Infrastructure
Tasks: Under the supervision of a Foreperson.
1. Use heavy or light trucks with relevant attachments in construction and maintenance work.
2. Sand, salt and plow roads, lanes, parking lots and other designated areas using a salt/sand spreader equipped with a front-mounted plow and side blade.
3. Transport personnel, materials, goods and equipment.
4. Load and unload trucks manually or with mechanical devices, with assistance as necessary.
5. Install and remove the relevant attachments from the trucks with assistance when necessary.
6. Perform daily vehicle inspection, routine cleaning, and service (e.g., top-up of lubricants, fluids, coolants, fuel, and air) and report defects.
7. Enter appropriate information in the Vehicle Registry.
8. Supervise no more than two workers in the performance of routine tasks.
9. Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and applicable Provincial Regulations listed therein.
10. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- We have successfully completed Secondary School (Class XII) Education.
- Having at least two (2) years of experience driving trucks.
- Proven ability to operate heavy or light trucks safely and efficiently with standard attachments such as snow blowers, snow wings, salt/sand spreaders.
- Shift work and/or switching to a normal work week is required.
- Must have a telephone to be contacted by the Employer regarding the winter call.
- Have some mechanical knowledge to prevent damage to the equipment.
- Ability to read and follow manufacturer’s routine maintenance and operating instructions.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and past employment history.
- CGS work may require the use of the CGS tool. Must have the physical capacity to operate a vehicle safely, possess a valid “DZ” class driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
