The company is currently seeking a Food Processing Engineer to operate its edible oil refinery and packaging facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Job description

Potential applicants will work in a variety of positions including refineries, filling lines, laboratory and control room environments. The production facility operates 24 hours a day and the workforce rotates in 3 shifts.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role is responsible for planning, directing and monitoring all production, maintenance and product quality activities to maximize the use of the organization’s resources and meet established production specifications and schedules; volume, cost, downtime, waste and quality standards.

  • Monitor overall edible oil processing operational results, such as yields, consumables, efficiencies and cost figures, and take appropriate action to stay on track with budgets and other agreed upon targets.
  • Involved in planning and maintenance activities of refinery and packaging equipment to ensure good production and minimum downtime.
  • Having good knowledge of edible oil refinery and filling equipment, planning production appropriately.
  • Responsible for overseeing the fulfillment of short and medium term production commitments for the facility.
  • Ensure the safety of workers and the production facility by collaborating with internal and external resources to move towards a zero accident or illness culture within the factory.
  • Having good knowledge of edible oil quality control and laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with product specifications.
  • Having good knowledge and being able to apply FSSC, BRC standards.
  • Leading all new product development efforts within the organization (refinery materials and processes, packaging materials, new process developments).
  • Ensuring and controlling the quality of all packaging materials and finished products.
  • Liaise with all relevant parties, both regulators and suppliers.
  • Coordinate with external testing and food analysis organizations to ensure top quality products are delivered
  • Pay attention to the filling process to ensure that filling and packaging losses are minimized.

Education

– Minimum working experience or Qualification: Bachelor (Chemical Engineering) degree or related field. Master’s degree plus advantage.

Experience (type) –

· Minimum 3 to 5 years of work experience in a edible oil production environment, including food production methods, process improvement program and procedures.

· Extensive experience (up to 5 years collectively in a food manufacturing plant with an emphasis on food safety managements, quality management systems, yield improvement and production planning)

Knowledge or specific business understanding –

· Strong technical infrastructure to lead the production team.

· Knowledge of food safety management systems

· Good knowledge of food oil laboratory analysis and quality control

· Good knowledge of organizational effectiveness and production management

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

· Analytical and conceptual skills

· Knowledgeable in Health and Safety Systems

· Knowledgeable in lean management (e.g. 5S)

Main Quest:

Develop and implement production schedules and procedures and allocate labor and capital resources to maximize efficiency

· Analyze production, maintenance, and malfunction records to identify problems and recommend solutions that will improve performance (e.g., changes to procedures, workflow, or equipment). Such improvements are expected to be implemented in collaboration with the site’s CI Lead.

· Plan, prioritize and manage production line maintenance or downtime to minimize disruptions to production schedules

· Lead, direct, evaluate and develop a team of supervisors responsible for a variety of production and maintenance activities such as assembly, machine operation, machining, machining or packaging.

· Determining targets, developing improvement plans and improving field capability in line with field priorities.

· Improve performance against relevant department KPIs and achieve budgeted performance without compromising long-term goals.
