Steps To Get Your Canada Study Visa – Canada Careers Hub

To study in Canada, you will need a Canadian work permit, which is similar to a Canadian student visa. If your course or program lasts less than six months, you do not need a Canadian study permit. However, it may be a good idea to apply for a permit before coming to Canada. If you do not do this and decide to study in a different program, you will need to leave the country to apply for a study permit at the visa office.

Applying for a work permit to study in Canada

You can apply for a Canadian study permit from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website; You can also apply on paper here. Most paper applications take about twice as long as online ones, so it’s important to check processing times in advance. To apply online, you will need a credit or debit card and the ability to convert your supporting documents into electronic copies (i.e., using a scanner or camera). The visa office in your country will tell you exactly what documents you need to bring. This may vary depending on where you live. If you need help, you can get it from your nearby visa application center (VAC).

What you need to do to get a Canadian student visa:

  • You must first get a standard acceptance letter from a recognized college or university. Students who wish to study in Quebec must also request a CAQ, which stands for “certificate of admission”, from the Quebec government. You must obtain this before applying for a study permit. You can get this information online, by printing a form, or by requesting a paper form from your university. Your university can also give you advice on this matter.
  • The next step is to receive the application package for the Canadian student visa. You can do this by going to the CIC website, calling your local visa office, or contacting the Canadian embassy or consulate in your home country. If you are from a certain country, you may also need a temporary residence permit. You can find out if you need it here. However, this will not make things too difficult because your study permit application will be processed at the same time.
  • You will need to answer a few questions about yourself on the CIC website to receive your application package. With the answers to these questions, you will learn whether you can apply for a Canadian student permit online and what documents you will need.
  • If you are eligible, you will receive a personal checklist code valid for 60 days. You will need this code to apply online. Be sure to print the page containing your code so you can look at it later. The page will also include a guide on how to fill out an application form, an estimated amount of tuition, a list of documents you need to submit with your application, and instructions on what to do next.

When you are ready to apply, you will need to create a MyCIC account and enter your personal checklist code. You will then receive your personal document checklist, allowing you to upload and submit your documents to CIC. You will need a printer or scanner to do this.

Once you receive your documents, application form and fees, you can send your completed application to CIC.

Some people may need to go to the local visa office for an interview.

Additional Canadian student visa requirements

Some or all of the following may also be required to obtain a Canadian student visa:

  • Biometrics (photo and fingerprint) may be required from applicants from Europe, the Middle East or Africa.
  • Some people may also be required to undergo a medical examination and/or police check before submitting their application. If you are in trouble with the law, you cannot get a study permit. You may be asked to show your Police Warrant as proof.
  • From the United States or St. If you are not from Pierre and Miquelon, you will need to show that you have a valid passport that will allow you to return to your home country when your course is finished. You also need two passport-sized photographs with your name and date of birth on the back of each.
  • One of the requirements for a Canadian student visa is proof that you have enough money to get by. Currently this is considered an extra CAD$10,000 (approximately US$7,650) for each year of your stay, or CAD$11,000 (approximately US$8,400) if you want to study in Quebec. You will also need to make sure you have enough money to return home.
To prove you have this money, you can show any of the following: bank statements proof of a Canadian account in your name if the money was transferred there a bank draft in convertible currency proof of payment for tuition and accommodation fees a letter from the person or organization who gave you the money or proof of funding paid from within Canada if you have a scholarship or are participating in a Canadian-funded program.

What should you do after applying?

If your Canadian student visa application is approved, you will receive a Port of Entry (POE) Entry Letter. If you come from a country that requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) and/or temporary residence visa, you will receive these as well. Your passport will be linked to eTA. It is important that you travel with the passport you used when obtaining your study permit. The eTA will be valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Present these to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Canada, along with your passport, proof of finances, acceptance letter, and any other documents you were told to bring with you. They will then issue you your Canadian study permit and allow you to enter Canada.
