Lumacare’s transportation service offers an easy and affordable way to get around the neighborhood and city. We are committed to meeting the diverse needs of our customers safely and comfortably.
Transportation is provided to medical appointments, treatment programs, and to assist with shopping, banking, and other daily tasks. This service provides customers with door-to-door pickup and drop-off.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drives individual and group rides (up to 5 clients) to designated destinations, sometimes accompanied by a companion or Passenger Assistant, ensuring safe and on-time arrival.
- Follows established route and schedule, transports physically disabled and cognitively impaired customers from the pick-up point to various destinations and back
- Adheres to all policies, procedures and practices and ensures customers do the same to ensure the safety of everyone involved on the road. Completes all documents and reports required by Lumacare policies and procedures in a timely and efficient manner.
- Performs daily mandatory Lumacare supervised circle checks on vehicle(s) before and after shift and detects minor and major vehicle defects, tops off vehicle fluids (i.e. gas and windshield wiper fluids) in a timely manner.
- Ensures vehicle exterior and interior are clean and presentable to customers and the public. Reports to the Chief any concerns regarding detected defects and condition of vehicles that may make them unsafe to drive.
- Observes routine Precautions and Infection Prevention and Control standards to minimize risk exposure when working with clients and others. Provides door-to-door and hand-to-hand transfer to ensure customer safety. Reports to Supervisor staff concerns due to the customer’s condition or Health and Safety concerns arising from driving a particular customer.
- Properly follows all Policies and Procedures to maintain a healthy and safe work environment and minimize risks.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Attends and participates in monthly team meeting; Participates in workshops and agency training when necessary.
- Performs other duties as needed (e.g., provides delivery or courier service between Lumacare offices and directs ADP staff for grocery shopping). Maintains knowledge of Fire, Safety, Quality and environmental standards, observes, enforces and implements appropriate procedures. Provides and enables others to maintain a safe, neat and orderly work area
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Minimum 3 years passenger transportation experience required
- At least two years’ experience working in providing support to vulnerable people is an advantage.
- At least five years of experience operating a minivan or similar vehicle around town, including major streets and highways such as the 401 and 400.
- Experience working with adults and seniors who have special needs that may include cognitive impairments and age-related challenges.
- PSW Certification from a certified educational institution is an asset
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
