Fresh City is an award-winning urban farm and omnichannel retailer. Led by the founder, we’re on a mission to help people make the world a better place through their food choices. More than ten years after we first started our business, our belief in this is even stronger. Every day, we deliver organic produce including chef-inspired and made-from-scratch foods, specialty meats and more to thousands of families in the Greater Toronto Area. We also farm in Downsview Park, where we also run a farmer incubation program.
In 2018, Fresh City acquired Mabel’s Bakery, a popular Toronto bakery producing artisan breads and pastries, and soon after in 2019, acquired The Healthy Butcher, a pioneer in organic and 100% Grass-fed beef. bought it. In 2022, subscription-based organic products and Grocery delivery company Mama Earth Organics was added to the list of brands making Fresh City the largest organic online retailer in Ontario.
With five retail locations across the GTA and home delivery across our four brands, the Fresh City family of brands continues to bring together farmers, makers, and eaters to deliver a food experience that respects our bodies, our planet, and our shared future.

Role Summary:
Fresh City is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate individual to join our team as a full-time, seasonal farmer. The candidate is expected to work with the farm team in all phases of small-scale organic vegetable production, including planting, harvesting, weeding, seed planting, greenhouse management and crop care. Experience in farm work is not required but is an important asset. Fresh City will provide on-the-job training and education as needed. We hope to find an individual who is a fast learner, hard-working, and has a positive attitude. Efficiency, speed and durability are a must when it comes to starting and operating a small farm. Any work experience in other business or service positions is important. Our farm has a small team and all employees are integral to making the season successful.
The position is considered full-time and seasonal. The start date is April 1, 2023 and the position will end on November 15, 2023. Fresh City also operates a warehouse, grocery delivery service, professional kitchen and bakery, and several retail locations; hence winter work will potentially be available for the right candidate. They are interested. As part of our long-term employment strategy, successful farm workers will be encouraged to return the next growing season to further develop their skills and continue their farming career at Fresh City.

What you will do:
- Seedling care including seeding, watering, potting, fertilizing
- Garden bed preparation such as wide forking, compost handling
- hand sowing
- sorting
- Harvesting in the field and greenhouses
- Wash and pack produce or bulk deliveries for sale on site
- Deliver products to Fresh City warehouse
- Site maintenance such as lawn mowing, weeding and general maintenance
- Irrigation management for field crops
- Assisting with construction projects and farm infrastructure installation
- Interact with the public frequently as our farm is located in a public park.
What you will bring to the table:
- Farming experience, preferably in a production-focused operation, is an asset
- Labor, service, restaurant business experience is an asset
- Motivation to work hard and increase productivity on the farm
- Strong teamwork and communication skills – ability to give and receive immediate direction and criticism
- Ability to work independently for long periods of time
- Positive attitude despite difficulties
- Attention to detail, a fast worker and a fast learner
- Physically fit and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, cold and heat
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals of different ages, genders, abilities, cultural backgrounds and those experiencing exclusion.
- Valid G driver’s license is an asset
- Experience with carpentry, irrigation and farm equipment is considered an asset.
What you need to know:
- Employment Status: Full Time Seasonal
- Compensation: $18.00/hour
- Schedule: 08:00 – 16:00 37.5 hours per week, some days longer, occasional weekend work
